GO adjusts schedules, resumes express train
along Kitchener line, starting February 13

When GO Transit made major changes to its train service along the 31 Kitchener line, starting Saturday, January 5 — well, let’s say that its passengers — especially those travelling to and from Brampton — were definitely unhappy.

GO says, “We know that the changes we recently made to our schedules didn’t work for our customers. We take those concerns seriously and that’s why… we’re re-introducing a 4:50 p.m. express trip that will run express from Union to Bramalea GO Station, and then make all stops to Kitchener. To put this additional train into service, we needed to make changes to some other afternoon trips…”

Here’s how GO’s fixing its Monday-to-Friday afternoon rush-hour schedule for westbound passengers, starting Wednesday, February 13.

  • The train that usually leaves Union Station at 4:04 p.m. leaves, instead, nine minutes later at 4:13 p.m. from platform 24. It no longer stops to drop off passengers at Bloor or Weston GO Station, operating express to Etobicoke North. It serves passengers at all other stations along the line to Georgetown, ending its trip there at 5:15 p.m. Passengers travelling to Bloor or Weston can board the train that leaves Union at 4:32 p.m. or UP Express trains, leaving Union every 15 minutes.
  • The train that usually leaves Union at 4:35 p.m. leaves, instead, three minutes earlier at 4:32 p.m. from platform 24. It drops off or picks up passengers at stops along the line as much as three minutes earlier than usually. It ends its trip in Bramalea GO Station at 5:13 p.m. Passengers travelling to Brampton, Mount Pleasant or Georgetown GO stations can board the can board the 4:50 p.m. express train from Union, which GO is re-introducing starting February 13. Passengers boarding beyond Union and travelling beyond Bramalea can board the train that leaves Union at 5:02 p.m., making all stops, ending in Georgetown at 6:10 p.m.
  • (Note that the 4:32 p.m. trip to Bramalea arrives at a temporary platform on the south side of the station, which has no elevator access to the north side of the station. If you need to use an elevator, do not board this train to Bramalea. All other trains to Bramalea will arrive on the regular platform, which has elevator access to the station building, north parking lot and bus loop.)
  • GO is resuming the 4:50 p.m. express train. The train operates without stopping from Union to Bramalea, then drops off or picks up passengers at all stations to Kitchener GO Station. It ends its trip in Kitchener at 6:46 p.m. This train is 12 coaches long, providing almost 2,000 seats for passengers. It leaves Union from platforms 11 and 12.
  • The train that usually leaves Union at 5:02 p.m. ends its trip in Georgetown at 6:10 p.m. Passengers boarding at Union and travelling to Acton, Guelph or Kitchener may board the re-introduced 4:50 p.m. express train or the 5:27 p.m. train from Union. Passengers boarding beyond Union and travelling beyond Georgetown can board the train that leaves Union at 5:27 p.m., or connect to the next westbound train in Georgetown at 6:35 p.m. The train will have ten coaches, instead of 12, due to train-storage capacity at Georgetown. The train leaves Union from platforms 25 and 26.
  • The 5:27 p.m. and 6 p.m. trips both leave Union from platforms 11 and 12.
