St Clair West Station wiring upgrades,
TTC detours, November 9 to 12

The TTC continues its project to upgrade the overhead streetcar wiring in the terminal at St Clair West Station.

This weekend, from 10 p.m. Friday, November 9 until 5 a.m. Monday, November 12, it’s closing the terminal to streetcars and buses.

It’s replacing streetcars with buses east of Oakwood Avenue along this route:

  • 512 St Clair.

It’s detouring buses along these routes:

  • 33 Forest Hill;
  • 90 Vaughan; and
  • 126 Christie.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers on St. Clair Avenue West beside the subway station entrance, instead of in the terminal. You must have a “proof of payment” (or POP) to board the buses, if you are transferring between buses or connecting to and from the Line 1 Yonge - University subway. For a proof of payment:

  • Tap your PRESTO farecard on a reader when you start your journey. The PRESTO system will deduct your fare and apply a transfer to your card. Your transfer is valid for two hours of your one-way continuous journey. Tap your PRESTO card on a reader every time you transfer.

or

  • Deposit your cash, ticket or token fare in the fare box. Remember to take your POP / transfer from the bus operator.

or

  • Show your pass (Metropass and weekly, GTA, Day or convention pass) to the operator when you board.

TTC crews are upgrading the wiring in the terminal to accommodate pantographs on the new Toronto Flexity low-floor accessible streetcars. A pantograph is the Z-shaped device at the top of the cars that collects power by contacting the overhead line. Among other benefits, pantographs tend not to “de-wire” as frequently as the trolley poles the TTC uses on other streetcars.
